Third Eleven Achieve the Double

The Third Eleven completed theit superb season easily defeating BSC Port Talbot by 7 wickets. They are Chapions of Division 2 and also lifted the West Wales Cup two weeks ago. BSC scored 108 for 9 in their 45 overs, Young Paul Jones took 4 for 17 and Arwel Roberts 2 for 22. We overtook the visitors total in only 16 overs with Andrew Burston finishing 69 not out.

The 1st eleven went down to a disappointing defeat to Cardiff having been in an excellent position to win. Cardiff scored 202 for 9 in thier allotted 50 overs. Iwan Jenkins scored an excellent 103 Mark Davies took 6 for 47 with Steve Inward holding 4 catches. Steve Inward 57, Glen Williams 32 and Alex McCormack took us to 111 for 1 before we collapsed to the bowling of Andrew Thomas 5 for 23 sliding to a 20 run defeat.

Port Talbot Saturday 14th August 2010

Saturday saw the visit of Port Talbot who won the toss and asked us to bat. After a slow start we were disappointingly bowled out for 187 after being154 for two. Steve Inward top scored with 70 with Alex Mccormack making 39 passing 500 runs for the season. Josh Tobin took 4 for 51 for PortTalbot. Glamorgan wicket keeper Mark Wallace made a speedy 105 with 7 fours and 7 sixes to enable Port Talbot to an easy 8 wicket victory with over 20 overs to spare.

The 2nd XI beat Port Talbot seconds by 6 wickets. Port Talbot batted first making 172 all out after being 127 for 0 at one stage. Rhys Lawry 3 for 20 and Tom Davies 2 for 36 being the main wicket takers. In reply 14 year old Aaron Ace made a superb 75 and was ably assisited by Saanjeev 25 leaving veteran Gareth Atkins to guide us home with 29 not out.

The 3rds easliy beat Pontardawe to maintain their position at the top of the table and now need only 12 points from the last two games to be promoted as champions. Craig Thomas took 4 for 28 and Josh John 4 for 24 dismissed Pony for 105 with Chris Baker Holding 4 Catches. Andrew Burston 35 and David Penny with 36 guided us home to another victory.

On Sunday The 3rds Played 1st Division Mumbles in the West Wales Cup Final at the Gnoll. Our bowlers were in superb form dismissing Mumbles for only 64. Craig Thomas with 3 for 17 and Mike Lloyd 3 for 13 the main wicket takers and they were well suported by Rhodri Jones, Chris Baker and Josh John. Andrew Burston 17 and Jon Davies 15 gave us a good start and we won the game by 8 wickets with 25 overs to spare. Mike Lloyd was named Man of the Match for his excellent all round performance.

Usk Saturday 7th August 2010

Saturday saw our first visit to Usk who won the toss and put us into bat. We lost an early wicket wehn Gareth Davies was out but Alex McCormack and Steve Inward steadied the innings. Alex went on to make 68 but it was Sam Davies with his 3rd 100 of the season who dominated our innings leaving Nicky Maggs with 37 and Josh Symmonds with 17 of 4 balls to take us to 278 in our 48 overs. In reply Usk could only make 171 with Travis Townsend makiing 51, Mark Davies bowled superbly to take 5 for 34 leaving Geraint Bowden with 2 for 16 to finish the Usk resistance.

The Second eleven lost a close game at home to Usk being bowled our for 144 after being given a good start by Owen Wells and Craig M Evans, Aaron Ace also batted well but Dominic Rees with 5 for 27 destroyed our middle order. In Usk's reply Craig R Evans 3 for 38 and Rhys Lawry 3 for 32 bowled well but Dominic Rees 28no continued his good form with the ball to guide Usk Home.

The Third Eleven returned to winning ways beating Port Talbot at Western Avenue. Third placed Port Talbot were bowled out for 98 With Josh John taking 3 for 20 and Keiron Brown 3 for 10. Andrew Burston with 47 saw us on our way to a 4 wicket win which sees us gain promotion to the First Division.

 

Sully Saturday 24th July 2010

Yesterday we drew with table topping Sully who scored 288 for 1 in their 50 overs, Jamie and Ryan Silvester shared an opening partnership of 140 before Ryan was out for 89, Jamie went on to score an unbeaten 124 and Glamorgans Mike Powell 64 not out, Glen Williams took the only wicket to fall with Alex McCormack taking an outstanding catch. In reply we made 244 for 8 Alex McCormack making 71 and Josh Simmonds a quick 37no at the tail of our innings.

The second eleven's game was abandoned with Sully on 61-2 chasing our 191 for 5. Tom Phiilps 44 and Matthew Pryce 42 laid the foundation of our total with Adam Davies 31no and Mike Lloyd 21no adding an unbeaten 51 for the 7th wicket. Unfortunalty the weather intervened with the game interestley poised.

Pontardulais Saturday 17th July 2010

Yesterday we gained a comfortable win against a strong Pontardulais side gaining revenge for our defeat earlier in the season. Pontardulais were all out for 152, Glamorgan Veteran Robert Croft made an unbeaton 50 and former ynys player Wayne Law 33. Tom Davies took 3 for 26 and he was well supported by David Harrison 2-39 and Nicky Maggs 1 for 26. Alex McCormack set us on our way with 36 leaving David Harrison 41 and Gareth Davies 29 not out to guide us home.

Pontardulais 2nds gained a narrow 1 wicket win over our 2nds at the Bont. Our batting again disappointed with Carig Evans 22 and Alex Powell 20, top scorers in our total of 110. When Bont batted Matthew Pryce 4 for 35 and Geraint Bowden 3 for 18 bowled superbly but Scott Lloyd 35 and Adrian Walters20 guided the Bont to a narrow victory.

The 3rd XI completed the double over Carmarthen Wanders gaining a 11th Win on the trot to remain unbeaton. We scored 148 all out with David Penny 46 and Captain Rhodri Jones 35 the main contributors. Carmarthen had no answer to the bowling of Craig Thomas 3 for 12 and Paul Jones 3 for 31 and were all out for just 65.

Ammanford Saturday 10th July 2010

Saturday saw us loose to local rivals Ammanford with 1 ball left. Following a good start by Keiron Howells and Will Bragg we were struggling on 143 for 6 when Nicky Maggs scored an excellent 50 which included 5 sixes enabling us to get to a modest 231 all out. Matthew Fisher returned excellnt figures of 5 for 45 for Ammanford. In rely our visitors innings was dominated by a superb 131 not out by Alun Evans who was supported ny Matthew Fisher 40. Davis Harrison took 4 for 42 for us in a disappointing result which meant that we are now 5th in the table.

The 2nd's pulled off a brilliant win at Ammanford. The home side scored 188 for 9 with Heddwyn Jones making 51. Craig R Evans and Geraint Bowden were the pick of our bowlers taking 3 for 38 and 3 for 20 respectivly. Captain Gareth Atkins made 43 in reply but we looked like loosing at 118 for 8, needing a further 71 to win off 10 overs. Craig Evans 21no and Matthew Pryce 16 took us to within 38 of Ammanford when last man Josh Simmonds came in to score an undefeated 28 to take us to a superb win.

The 3rd Eleven maintained their unbeaten run with a 10th win on the trot at Ammanford. The home side were all out for 127 with Robert Davies making 44, Chris Baker was the pick of our bowlers with 5 for26. In reply Andrew Burston scored a quick fire 37 to set us on our way leaving Mike Lloyd 25 and Alex Powell 26 not out to guide us home

Newport Saturday 3rd July 2010

We returned to winning ways on our first visit to Newport with a narrow 1 wicket victory with 2 overs to spare. Newport won the toss and batted were restricted to 207 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. Nathan Millichip and Kyle Tudge both scored 53 for the home side. Nicky Maggs took 4 for 41 and Will Bragg 3 for 27 whilst Mark Davies only conceded 24 runs in his 12 overs. In reply Will Bragg completed a well made 50 but we were struggling at 108 for 7 when Captain Mark Davies and Keiron Howells put together a match winning partership of 86, Mark was out for 46 leaving Keiron to guide us home with 53 not out.

The 2nd Eleven fell to a 124 run defeat to Newport who scored 228 for 7 in their 50 overs Josh Aston 57. Glen Williams taking 2 for 44. Only Gareth Atkins 20 and Owen Wells 17 offered any resistance in our reply Josh Aston taking 4 for 12.

The 3rd Eleven continued their excellent season with an 8th Win on the trot easily beating Ynysyawe by 9 wickets. Ynystawe were all out for 125 Craig Thomas 4 for 17, passing 20 wickets for the season and Alex Powell 4 for 20. Youngsters Jon Davies 33 and Mike Lloyd 63 not out put on 107 for the first wicket leaving Andrew Burston to score the winning runs with 36 overs to spare.

Port Talbot Saturday 12th June 2010

Alex McCormack scored a brilliant 131 in our drawn game away to Port Talbot. His innings contained 20 fours and 2 sixes and came off 124 balls, he shared in partnerships of 113 with Will Bragg (44) and Steve Inward (46) leaving Keiron Howells with 25 to guide us to an imposing 303 for 7. David Harrison struck an early blow having Mark Wallace caught by Keiron Howells, Ian Thomas 80 and Dan Cherry 56 posted a 2nd wicket stand of 109 before Glen Williams captured both caught by David Harrison leaving Port Talbot 76 runs short of their target in a drawn game. David Harrison returned excellent figures of 5 for 46 from 10 Overs.

The 2nd Eleven returned to winning ways with a 33 run win over the visitors. Gareth Atkins 52 guided us to 198 for 9 helped by Matthew Pryce and Tom Phillips who both scored 26. Port Talbot were bowled out for 165 with 3 overs to spare with Matthew Pryce 3 for 22 the main wicket taker. Josh Simmonds , Craig Evans and Mike Llloyd all bowled well keeping the pressure on Port Talbot .

The Thirds made it six wins out of six defeating Pontardawe by 8 wickets. Pontardawe made 137 for 7 in their 45 overs Craig Thomas Arwel Roberts and Rhodri Jones each took 2 wickets whilst Chris Baker conceded only 17 runs in his 10 overs. We sped to victory in only 23 overs with Aaron Ace top scoring with 73 supported by Andrew Burston 33 and Alex Powell 28 not out

Usk Saturday 5th June 2010

We gained our first League win against Usk at home on Saturday. Usk won the toss and batted scoring 234 for 7 in their allotted overs. Tom Baker 61 and Owen Watkins with a quickfire 60 were their main scorers Craig Evans, Nicky Maggs and Gareth Davies took 2 wickets each. We achieved our target in for the loss of only 3 wickets with 12 overs to spare. Sam Davies scored his 2nd century of the season finishing with a superb 103 not out, Steve Inward scored 55 sharing in a 3rd wicket match winning partnership of 101.

The 2nds lost at Usk in a high scoring game. We scored 269 for 4 with Glen Williams finishing undefeated on an excellent 121, sharing in a 2nd wicket partnership of 129 with Sanjeev who made 71. Adam Davies with a hard hitting 39 from only 22 balls was out off the last ball. Usk's Mike Kear 84 and Sean Francis 89no shared a partnership of 128 before Jake Roderick 57no powered Usk to victory with 5 overs to spare.

The 3rd's met local rivals Port Talbot in a top of the table clash at Cwrt Herbert. Port Talbot Scored 178 for 6 Tom Evans 58no and Jake Underwood scoring 33. Barry Fox took 2 for 36. In our winning reply of 180 for 6 young Mike Lloyd made 43 no helped by Rhodri Jones 35 and Andrew Burston 25. This victory was our 5th win on the trot and sees us comfortably on top of the table.

Sully Saturday 22nd May 2010

Saturday saw the visit of league leaders Sully to Ynys with the best weather of the year to date. Sully won the toss and batted. Glamorgan's Michael Powell top scored with 63 and Richard Ready 42 in their score of 283 for 9 in their allotted overs. Craig Evans took 3 for 44 and Gareth Davies 3 for 35. Alex McCormack with 39 gave us a good start but when Nicky Maggs and Mark Davies came together we were struggling on 123 for 6 . They put together an excellent 88 for the 7th wicket Mark making 32 and Nicky a superb aggressive 87 with 9 4's and 5 6's. When our overs ran out we were 37 short of our target.

Gareth Atkins lost the toss at Sully and the 2nds were invited to bat first. Tom Phillips continued his excellent form with a superb 121 which included 18 4's and we set Sully a target of 244 to win which they achieved in the 44th over with 3 wickets to spare. Sanjeev took 2 for 65 and Glen Williams 2 for 55.

The 3rd XI continued their excellent start to the season winning their fourth game in a row. Gowerton were all out for 137 with Mike Lloyd taking 4 for 45 and Craig Thomas 3 for 16. Captain Rhodri Jones lead us to victory with 55 not out and Craig Thomas finished on 29 not out.

Pontardulais Saturday 15th May 2010

We suffered our first Premier League defeat against Pontardulais who won the toss and invited us to bat. Alex McCormack top scored with 30 supported by Keiron Howells and Sam Davies who both scored 25 in our disappointing total of 151 all out. Carl Roberts took 4 for 44 and Alex Jones 3 for 34. Wayne Law 50no and D Roberts 66 put on 119 for the first wicket as Pontardulais won by 9 wickets.

The Second XI continued their excellent form defeating Pontardulais 2nds by 2 wickets with 11 overs to spare. Gareth Atkins won the toss and invited our visitors to bat, Bont scored 166 for 9 in their 50 overs 13 year old Lucas Carey top scored with 53 and Scott Lloyd scored 44. Matthew Pryce continued his excellent form this season taking 3 for 29 supported by Rhys Lawry 3 for 26. In reply Tom Phillips made his 2nd 50 of the season stroking 8 fours in his 60 and Matthew Pryce hit 54 no to complete a man of the match performance.

The 3rd XI easily beat Carmarthen Wanderers by 10 wickets. Carmarthen were bowled out for 115 Craig Thomas 5 for 23 and Mike Lloyd 3 for 23 doing the damage Mike Bull 59 held together the Carmarthen Innings. Craig Evans 60no and Jon Davies 50 no guided us to a our 3rd consecutive victory.

Ammanford Saturday 8th May 2010

Saturday saw us travel to Ammanford were put into bat by Mark Davies. Despite some interruptions for rain Ynys bowled the home side out for 210 in the last over of their allotted 50. The innings was dominated by Matthew Fisher with 77 supported by Craig Maloney 37 and Huw Evans 26. Gareth Davies took 3 for 46 and Glen Williams 3 for 31. Because of rain Ynys were set a revised total of 184 in 42 overs and finished 30 runs short. Nicky Maggs was unbeaten on 30 at the finish with Steve Inward 26 and Keiron Howells 20 the other main contributors.

The Second XI won the toss and Owen Wells invited Ammanford to bat. Matthew Pryce and Tom Davies quickly reduced the visitors to 33 for 5 before Huw Jenkins 77 and Carl Griffths 24 lead the recovery in a stand of 77 before Matthew Pryce returned for his second spell to bowl out Ammanford for 149.Matthew finsihed with 4 for 37 and Tom 4 for 37 .Tom Phillips 58 and Adam Davies 28 gave us an explosive start with a stand of 95 in only 13 overs leaving Matthew Pryce 18no and Sanjeev 18 no to complete a superb 6 wicket win with 30 overs to spare.

The 3rd also played Ammanford and ran out 5 wicket winners at Cwrt Herbert restricting Ammanford to 103 for 8 in thier 45 overs Barry Fox 4-30 and Craig Thomas 3 for 29. Captain Rhodri Jones scored an undefeated 45 to see his side home.

Newport Saturday 1st May 2010

Saturday saw the visit of Newport for the historic 1st game in the Premier League. Newport won the toss and put us in to bat soon making early inroads with the wickets of Will Bragg and Keiron Howells. There then followed a superb stand of 210 between Steve Inward and Sam Davies. Steve's innings included 13 4's and 4 6's and Sam's brilliant first innings for us included 13 4's and 7 6's. Our score of 318 is one of the highest scores at Ynys. Newport's reply suffered and early set back when dangerman Ian Thomas was run out for 23,Imran Hassan scored an excellent 67 and Nathan Millichip 44 but our score was always too much for Newport to achieve. Gareth Davies took 3 for 47 with the other wickets being shared between Nicky Maggs, Craig Evans and Will Bragg.

The second's suffered a 6 wicket defeat at Newport after being bowled out for 177. Tom Phillips top scored with 37, Alex Powell scored 24 and Matthew Pryce scored 26 not out in a 9th wicket partnership of 44 with Rhys Lawry. Newport achieved their win with 2 overs to spare. Matthew Pryce bowled well to take 2 for 28 in his 12 overs to complete a good match for him.
